Most common general dentistry FAQs
?
General dentistry focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and general management of oral health needs. Includes a variety of services such as dental cleanings, exams, fillings, extractions, and oral hygiene education.
We recommend having a dental exam every six months to maintain good oral health and prevent dental problems. However, your dentist may suggest a different frequency based on your individual needs.
A professional dental cleaning includes the removal of plaque and tartar from the teeth, dental polishing to remove surface stains, and sometimes the application of a fluoride treatment. Your gums are also checked to detect any signs of periodontal disease.
If you have a broken or cracked tooth, it is important that you visit your dentist as soon as possible. Avoid chewing with that tooth and rinse your mouth with warm water. If there is bleeding, apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
Gum diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, are infections that affect the gums and the bone that supports the teeth. They are prevented with good oral hygiene, which includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day, flossing daily, and getting regular professional cleanings.
Most common Invisalign clear aligners FAQs
?
Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. These aligners are custom-made and changed every one to two weeks to gradually move your teeth toward the desired position.
Invisalign offers several advantages, such as the transparency of the aligners, which makes them practically invisible. In addition, they are removable, which makes dental hygiene easier and allows you to eat without restrictions. They also tend to be more comfortable and cause less irritation to the gums and lips.
Invisalign treatment begins with a consultation to evaluate your case. Impressions and x-rays of your teeth are taken to create a digital treatment plan. Then, custom aligners are made that you must wear for at least 22 hours a day, changing them according to your dentist’s instructions.
The duration of treatment varies depending on individual needs, but generally lasts between 12 and 18 months. Some cases may require less time, while more complex cases may take a little longer.
It is recommended that you remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. Eating with your aligners in can damage them and can also cause staining. After eating, brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in.
Dental visits are usually scheduled every 6 to 8 weeks to monitor progress and receive new aligners. These appointments are quick and make sure your treatment is progressing as planned.
