General dentistry

Good oral health depends on healthy eating habits and a regular cleaning routine. During your first visit, the FAIRMOUNT DENTAL CENTRE staff will perform a thorough oral exam and will recommend a maintenance program that will keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Dental cleaning

Dental cleaning (prophylaxis) is an essential procedure to maintain good health and detect oral diseases.

The benefits of a dental cleaning include the following:

Oral hygiene: Scaling and root planing (conventional periodontal therapy). Medically accurate 3D illustration of human teeth treatment

Plaque and tartar removal:

using specialized equipment and technologies, the hygienist removes the tartar accumulated around the gum line and the persistent stains on the teeth enamel. A polishing session then removes rough spots and persistent stains. Finally, a fluoride treatment may be applied to the patients showing a deficiency (if needed).

Fresh breath:

chronic bad breath (halitosis) is often caused by food residues in decay, periodontal disease or other health ailments. The removal of plaque, tartar and bacteria will considerably improve your breath and remove irritation.

Health problem diagnosis:

a thorough exam of the oral cavity helps detect oral cancer, periodontics or other diseases such as diabetes or kidney failure.

X-Rays

X-rays are an essential complement to the dental exam: they help identify the presence of caries, bone tissue loss, gum diseases, abscesses, cysts, tumors or to identify the location or development of a tooth. X-rays help to identify a region that needs special attention.

Filling

A filling is used to repair a tooth affected by caries, a crack or a fracture.

The two most popular filling materials are amalgam and resin composite. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages. The dentist will recommend the best solution for the restoration of your teeth.

The filling is a relatively simple procedure that can be completed in a single appointment. Under anesthesia, the dentist removes the caries, if necessary. The cavity is thoroughly cleaned and prepared to receive the filling. A medicine may be applied to protect the underlying tooth nerve. The filling is then inserted, modeled and polished to adopt the form and function of the tooth.

After the treatment, you will receive instructions and a cleaning program in order to keep your fillings in good condition.

Surgery and Dental Extractions

Dental surgery involves the incision or removal of oral tissue: gum surgery, removal of damaged tissue, jawbone correction, implant installation, dental extraction, cleft lip (made by a specialist), etc.

A dental extraction is recommended, as a last recourse, in different circumstances: when a caries has considerably affected the tooth structure, an infection has impacted the jawbone’s bone tissue, a tooth is overlapping another, or an accident has greatly damaged the tooth, for example.

After the treatment, your dentist will recommend a maintenance plan to reduce the risks of complications. Regular check-up sessions will be scheduled to ensure a prompt and proper recovery.
