What is a dental exam?

A dental exam is essential to your oral health. Your dentist will conduct a full dental exam during your first visit. On subsequent visits, you will receive regular checkups, including taking dental x-rays, these X-rays will be examined and are essential to detect cavities, tumours, cysts and bone loss. They are also used to determine the position of teeth and roots, for example, the spacing and occlusion of teeth.

Subsequently, we screen for oral cancer: we check whether the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues and gums show signs of oral cancer. This also includes an assessment of gum disease: We examine the gums and bones around the teeth for signs of periodontal disease. Also, we are doing an examination of tooth decay, all dental surfaces will be examined using special instruments. Review of existing restorations: We check the fillings, crowns or other restoration work that you have done to determine if they are in good condition or need to be replaced.
